חָרוּת

חָרוּתI m. 1) (חרת, sec. r. of חרה, v. חֶרְיָה) dried up by heat, shrunk. Succ.32a top ח׳ פסול if the palm-branch is dried up, it is unfit for use; דומה לח׳ if it only looks as if dried up (blackish) Fem. חֲרוּתָה. ḤullIII, 2 ח׳ בידי שמים if the animals lungs are shrunk (wood-like) through an accident; ib. 55b ח׳ בידי אדם by violence done to it. Tosef. ib.
