- חָרוּתI m. 1) (חרת, sec. r. of חרה, v. חֶרְיָה) dried up by heat, shrunk. Succ.32a top ח׳ פסול if the palm-branch is dried up, it is unfit for use; דומה לח׳ if it only looks as if dried up (blackish) Fem. חֲרוּתָה. ḤullIII, 2 ח׳ בידי שמים if the animals lungs are shrunk (wood-like) through an accident; ib. 55b ח׳ בידי אדם by violence done to it. Tosef. ib. III, 12 אי זוהי ח׳וכ׳ what animal is called ḥărutha?Answ. whose lungs are shrunk. 2) engraven, v. חָרַת. Y.B. Bath.IV, 14c bot. חרותין, v. דּוּת.
